Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Introduction

SREs at Optimizely is focused on making us the most reliable, performant, and trustworthy Digital Experience Optimization platform ever. Our engineering teams have built data pipelines that process 10 billion events daily and applications that support powerful experimentation and collaboration workflows at scale. Our platforms are built on AWS and GCP. We use technologies such as Kafka, Samza, HBase, MySQL, and Postgres. We build and manage our systems using TravisCI, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Chef. We use a combination of managed and self-hosted approaches. This is a unique opportunity to lead the engineering organization in areas of standardized automated infrastructure and service provisioning and orchestration, service-oriented architectural excellence, and forward-looking planning and execution of large technical projects.

Knowledge and Experience

• Documented experience working in a Linux Systems Administration or Linux Systems Support role in a multi-application/multi-server environment, preferably with virtual or Cloud-based systems utilities or software
• Documented experience with load balancing and firewalls
• Ability to build and monitor services on production servers in a public cloud environment, preferably Azure
• Experience with ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana)
• Experience in building CI/CD pipelines, ideally Azure DevOps, TeamCity, Jenkins
• Knowledge of infrastructure as code tools, preferably Terraform
• Knowledge of configuration as code tools, ideally Chef Infra
• Should have robust systems analytics and recommendation experience in areas related to Operating Systems, Capacity and Hardware Sizing
• Experience assessing the technical environment and recommending/designing customized Cloud-focused solutions to solve problems.

Job Responsibilities

• Help tune performance and ensure high availability of infrastructure
• Create tools to help the development team make the most out of the available infrastructure
• Monitor alerts coming out of Optimizely’s selected products including Search and Navigation, Content Graph, and Product Recommendations, and coordinate with the Site Reliability Engineering team as necessary to take preventive or corrective action to resolve incidents, with a goal to minimize MTTA/R
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipeline for mentioned above products
• Document your system knowledge as you acquire it over time and ensure critical system information is readily available to the development team for debugging/troubleshooting issues.

Education

• BS CS or equivalent industry experience
